Understanding the 9 Selectable Ignition Curves

Ignition timing affects when the spark fires relative to piston movement. Changing the timing curve alters how spark advance progresses across engine operating conditions, and may change throttle response, pulling characteristics and riding feel. This CDI provides settings 1 through 9. The MOREV curve guide describes settings near Curve 1 as favoring later-range power delivery and settings near Curve 9 as emphasizing earlier response. These are alternative ignition maps, not nine fixed horsepower levels or an assurance of increased engine output.

Installation & Important Warnings

A DC CDI receives ignition power from a suitable DC electrical supply. A 6-pin AC CDI can share a similar connector layout but must not be substituted for this module. This is the DC-powered CG CDI only. The supplied terminal-side wiring illustration covers the shared CG AC/DC connector design. For this DC model, terminal 6 requires battery +12V DC input, not AC stator exciter voltage. In the illustrated terminal-side orientation, terminal 1 is pickup/trigger signal, terminal 2 ignition coil output, terminals 3 and 4 grounds, and terminal 5 kill switch/engine stop. Both ground terminals must be connected according to the product wiring guide. Verify connector orientation and each wire against the actual vehicle harness before installation. Never connect AC and DC power sources simultaneously, and never feed the AC stator exciter circuit into this DC-only CDI. Turn off the vehicle and disconnect the power before installation. Verify ground, pickup/pulse signal, ignition coil connection and the harness pinout against your original CDI. Incorrect wiring may result in no-start conditions or component damage; consult a qualified mechanic if the configuration is uncertain.
